I finally did a Wave 1 freediving course after all these years of scuba diving and absolutely got hooked. The relaxed and supportive atmosphere made it easy to learn, build confidence, and enjoy every step of the process. It gave me a completely new perspective on being underwater, and I'm already looking forward to Wave 2. ๐โ๐ป

As a scuba diver, I'd wanted to work on my freediving for years but never got around to it. I'm so glad I finally did. The instructor has an incredible amount of patience and explains everything in a way that's relaxed and genuinely enjoyable. Nothing ever felt rushed, and I progressed much faster than I expected. Most importantly, I felt safe, comfortable, and supported the entire time.

Did the Level 1 freediving and it was way more professional than I expected. It was really useful, especially learning how to equalize properly and get relaxed before diving down. I felt safe and looked after the entire time I was in the water, and I appreciated the focus on safety and buddy procedures. Highly recommend if you want to learn the correct way.

I did the Level 1 freediving course and a few fun dives here. I was a little timid at first, but the instructor was so professional and made me feel safe the entire time. It was one of the best experiences I've had while traveling. :)

I wanted an experienced freedive instructor to guide us through the swim throughs at the Tulamben shipwreck, film me, and be there for safety. Reeve was an amazing guide, sharing the wreck's history and guiding me through the various swim throughs and cavities. An excellent and knowledgeable instructor who keeps safety as the priority. Highly recommend!

Booked a private freediving session and it was one of the best times I've had in the water, not even close. I'd done private coaching before and wasn't fussed, and Amed is flooded with schools right now, so I kept expectations low. The relaxation exercises and technique tips were something else. I broke a PB and had the best dive of my life. Can't fault them.

About the Aquatix 2-day Freediving Course in Amed, Bali
Some questions people always ask us.
Do I need to be a strong swimmer?
You need to be comfortable in the ocean and able to swim 200 meters at the surface without stopping โ no time limit, any stroke is fine. You don't need to be a competitive swimmer or have any prior diving experience. If you're confident in the water and can handle yourself without a lifejacket, you're good to go.
What certification do I get at the end?
You'll receive an official Molchanovs Wave 1 certification upon completing all course requirements. Molchanovs is one of the world's leading freediving agencies and your certification is recognised internationally.
To earn the certification you'll need to pass a short multiple-choice theory exam (done digitally on your phone) and complete the required open water skills during the course. Your instructor will walk you through everything โ it's more straightforward than it sounds.
What if I struggle to equalize?
Equalization is the most common challenge for first-time freedivers โ you're in very good company. We cover it in detail during the theory workshop on Day 1 and practice it in the pool before you ever go near the line.
We'll send you some short preparation videos before the course that cover equalization exercises you can do from bed. Students who watch these beforehand almost always have a significantly better first dive experience. If you still struggle on the day, your instructor will work with you patiently โ there's no pressure to go deeper than you're comfortable with.
What should I bring on the day?
We provide all freediving equipment (wetsuit, fins, mask, snorkel, weight belt). Here's what to bring:
- A swimsuit or rash guard
- A towel
- Reef-safe sunscreen
- Water and a light snack โ avoid heavy meals at least 2 hours before diving
- Your phone for the digital theory exam on Day 2
If you have your own freediving gear, bring it along. We offer a small discount for students who come fully equipped.
How many students are in the course?
We keep groups small โ typically between 2 and 4 students per instructor. This means more time on the line, more personalised feedback, and a more relaxed atmosphere. Freediving is a mental sport as much as a physical one, and small groups make a huge difference in how quickly people progress.
What if I don't complete all the requirements?
No stress. We don't teach to a checklist โ we teach to your potential. If you don't hit all the certification requirements within the two days, you still leave with real skills and a genuine understanding of freediving. You can complete any outstanding requirements in a follow-up coaching session or during your next visit to Aquatix.
We'd much rather you enjoy the process and dive at a pace that feels right, than rush through requirements just to get a card.
Can I cancel or reschedule the course?
Yes. If you need to reschedule, please let us know as early as possible โ ideally at least 48 hours before the course starts. We understand that travel plans change, especially in Bali. If you need to cancel due to illness or an emergency, reach out directly and we'll do our best to work something out.
Are there any medical conditions that would stop me from joining?
Most people in good general health can freedive safely. However, certain conditions may restrict participation โ including heart or respiratory issues, ear or sinus problems, epilepsy, and pregnancy. You'll be asked to complete a short medical declaration before the course.
If you have any concerns, we recommend checking with your doctor beforehand. If you have a history of ear or sinus problems, it's worth seeing an ENT specialist before arriving โ equalization issues are the most common reason students struggle, and many can be resolved with the right preparation.
What should I ask any operator before booking?
A few things worth checking with any operator before you commit:
- How many clients per instructor?
- What certification does the instructor hold?
- Are clients covered by third-party liability insurance for the duration of the activity?
- Is the operator properly licensed to run commercial diving activities in Indonesia?
We're happy to answer all of these. Just reach out.
