Another happy Aussie
Big fish. Open water. One day.
You'll spend the day on a private boat, moving between offshore FADs in North Bali's clear blue water. FADs are anchored structures that turn empty ocean into hunting ground: baitfish swarm around them, and the big pelagics follow.
Your instructor is in the water with you throughout the day, hunting alongside you as guide and safety diver.

A private chartered boat for the full day, with all spearfishing equipment and snacks included.

A professional guide in the water with you throughout the charter, not watching from the boat.

Safety and hunting briefing with your instructor before you enter the water.

A full day in open water, rotating between multiple FADs based on conditions and fish activity.

Underwater videography of your dives and catches throughout the day.

What's in the water.
North Bali's FADs sit in deep, clear water with visibility that regularly hits 25–30 meters. Here's what you might find waiting at the FADs:

Mahi Mahi (Dorado): A prized pelagic catch around the world and spectacular on film.

Tuna: The trophy target. Catch one and you'll be talking about it for years.

Wahoo: Magnificent, shiny, torpedos. One of the fastest fish in the ocean. When they show up, it's a great day.

Rainbow Runners, Almacao Jack, Lesser Amberjack, Triple Tail, Cobia, Giant Trevally, Barracuda, Oceanic Triggerfish, and Filefish.

Unicorns: The FADs always have surprises. We've seen Marlin, Sailfish, Pilot Whales, Sperm Whales, Beaked Whales, Whale Sharks, and plenty of Dolphins!

We Run a Tight Ship
Every charter runs with proper safety protocols, not as a formality, but because that's how professional spearfishing operations work.
Before anyone enters the water, we brief. In the water, your instructor is always close by to guide you. On the surface, the boat is standing by to able to pickup divers in less than 60-seconds.

Full safety and hunting briefing before every session: speargun handling, float line protocol, dive signals, and emergency procedures.

You'll receive feedback and coaching from your instructor to help improve your diving and hunting ability between and during dives.
Your instructor dives with you as a dedicated safety diver throughout the day, not watching from the boat.

Common questions about the blue water charter.
Do I need spearfishing experience to join this charter?
You should be comfortable in the ocean and have some breath-hold ability. Prior spearfishing experience is helpful but not required. If you've never spearfished before, we'd recommend starting with our Learn to Spearfish course — it includes the theory session, target practice, and a guided charter all in one day.
Do I need to be able to dive deep?
No. This is one of the biggest misconceptions about bluewater spearfishing, and it stops a lot of people from giving it a go who would absolutely love it.
The fish are not deep. Mahi mahi, wahoo, tuna, and most other pelagic species at the FADs sit right at the surface. They are curious, aggressive, and they come to you. Around 90% of fish shot in bluewater are taken shallower than 5 metres. Some are shot from the surface without a dive at all.
You do not need to be a freediver. You do not need a certification. You need to be comfortable in the ocean, able to put your face in the water, and willing to have a go. Your instructor will handle everything else.
What equipment do I need to bring?
All equipment is provided and included: speargun, float line, float, wetsuit, fins, mask, snorkel, weight belt, and weights. If you have your own spearfishing gear, you're welcome to bring it — just let us know when you book.
How much does the charter cost?
The charter is $450 USD for a private booking, or $800 USD for two people. All equipment, the boat charter, car transportation, and underwater videography are included. Food and drinks are not included in the price.
What is a FAD and where exactly do you go?
A FAD (Fish Aggregating Device) is a man-made floating structure anchored offshore. They attract baitfish, which in turn draw in large pelagic species like mahi mahi, wahoo, and tuna. The exact FADs we visit depend on conditions and fish activity on the day — your instructor will choose the best spots based on current reports.
Can I keep the fish I catch?
Yes. All fish you catch belong to you. We'll have them cleaned and filleted, and you can arrange to have them cooked at a local beachside restaurant in the evening. We only spear fish we intend to eat — sustainable and ethical hunting is part of how we operate.
What if we don't catch anything?
Spearfishing in the open ocean is real hunting — there are no guarantees. Some days the FADs are stacked with fish; other days conditions aren't ideal. We'll do everything we can to put you on fish, but we can't promise a catch. What we can promise is a full day on the water with proper instruction and a good experience regardless of the result.
What's the speedboat add-on?
For an additional fee, we can take you to more remote blue water spots that are only accessible by speedboat. These locations typically hold bigger, less-pressured fish. Ask us when you book and we'll put together a custom quote based on where you want to go and what species you're targeting.
What if the weather or ocean conditions are bad?
We monitor conditions closely. If it's genuinely unsafe to go out, or if conditions would make for a very poor experience, we'll contact you to reschedule at no cost. We won't run a charter in conditions that put anyone at risk — safety comes first, always.
Can I cancel or reschedule?
Yes. Please give us at least 48 hours notice if you need to change your booking. Cancellations within 24 hours of the charter start time may not be eligible for a full refund, as logistics, transport, and equipment are already in motion by that point. If you need to cancel due to illness or an emergency, reach out directly and we'll handle it on a case-by-case basis.
What should I ask any operator before booking?
A few things worth checking with any operator before you commit:
- How many clients per instructor?
- What certification does the instructor hold?
- Are clients covered by third-party liability insurance for the duration of the activity?
- Is the operator properly licensed to run commercial diving activities in Indonesia?
We're happy to answer all of these. Just reach out.
