Aquatix Discover Freediving Session in Amed, Bali
Some questions people always ask us.
Do I need any experience at all?
None whatsoever. This session is designed specifically for people who have never freedived before. All you need is basic swimming ability — you should be comfortable in the ocean and able to swim without a lifejacket. No snorkeling, scuba, or breath-hold experience required.
Will I get a certification?
This session is an introduction — not a full certification course. You won't receive a formal agency certification at the end, but you will leave with real, practical skills and a solid foundation of freediving knowledge.
If you enjoy it and want to take it further, the natural next step is our Level 1 Freediving Course (2 days), which does award an internationally recognised Molchanovs Wave 1 certification. Many students do the Discover session and book the Level 1 course the same week.
Is it safe? I'm a little nervous about holding my breath underwater.
Being nervous is completely normal — and honestly, a good sign. It means you're taking it seriously. Freediving is one of the safest water sports when done correctly with a qualified instructor beside you, which is exactly what this session is.
Your instructor will be in the water with you the entire time. You'll never be asked to push beyond what feels comfortable, and you can end any dive whenever you want. The breath-hold ability comes naturally once you learn to relax — most people surprise themselves on their first session.
What should I bring?
We provide all the freediving equipment — wetsuit, fins, mask, snorkel, and weight belt. Just bring:
- A swimsuit
- A towel
- Reef-safe sunscreen
- Water and a light snack — avoid a heavy meal within 2 hours of your session
What if I can't equalize my ears?
Ear equalization is covered in the theory part of your session before you ever get in the water. Your instructor will show you the technique and give you a chance to practice it in the pool before heading to the ocean.
Even if you only manage a few meters on your first dive, that's completely normal and still produces a great experience. The most important thing is that you never push through ear pain — always signal to your instructor and come back up. There's no rush.
Can I book this for two people?
Yes! Booking as a couple or with a friend is a great way to do it — the shared experience is really special and makes for memorable footage too. Just let us know the number of people when you reach out so we can plan the session accordingly.
Can I cancel or reschedule?
Yes — please just give us as much notice as possible, ideally at least 48 hours before your session. If bad weather or ocean conditions on our side force a cancellation, we'll always reschedule at no cost to you.
What should I ask any operator before booking?
A few things worth checking with any operator before you commit:
- How many clients per instructor?
- What certification does the instructor hold?
- Are clients covered by third-party liability insurance for the duration of the activity?
- Is the operator properly licensed to run commercial diving activities in Indonesia?
We're happy to answer all of these. Just reach out.
