Common questions about coaching sessions.
What is the schedule of a coaching session?
Coaching session are a half-day service that take between 4-5 hours to complete. They start in the morning at 8:30am, but can also be scheduled in the afternoon. The typical schedule consists of:
8:30 | Morning
Meet and Greet
- Arrive and be welcomed at out dive center!
- Be introduced to your instructor, finalize payment, complete our waiver form, then choose your diving equipment.
- This is also a great time to order any drinks or snacks from our restaurant.
Warm Up and Make A Plan
- Chat with your instructor to discuss your goals and objectives for the session.
- Complete a light body stretching and breathwork session with your instructor to prepare for your dive.

- Walk just 2 minutes across the street to our freediving site (Jemeluk Bay).
Time to Dive

- We aim to be in the water freediving for at least 90-minutes.
- Sometimes dive sessions can be shorter, but usually they are longer. This depends on your goals, energy levels, and the number of students.
Back to Aquatix
- Return to our dive school, return your dive equipment, order a drink or meal, shower, and maybe check your email or DM's.

- You'll receive customized feedback from your instructor or how to progress your diving.
Debriefing

- Now you can relax! Feel free to hang around the dive school and meet other freedivers.
- Reward yourself with something sweet from our restaurant or maybe have a beer!
Can I do my coaching session privately?
Yes — and a lot of people prefer it that way. A private coaching session means it's just you and your instructor in the water with no other students. You get their full attention for the entire session, which tends to mean more dive time, faster progress, and more detailed feedback.
Private coaching sessions are available at a higher rate than our standard group sessions. Check out our VIP & Private Sessions page for more details, or reach out directly and we'll put together a package for you.
Do I need to be a certified freediver to book a coaching session?
We recommend that you have some prior freediving experience — either from a course or self-taught — before booking a coaching session. You should be comfortable in the ocean and have a basic understanding of equalization and safety.
That said, we assess everyone individually. If you're unsure whether your experience level is suitable, just reach out and describe your background — we'll give you an honest answer.
What equipment do I need?
All freediving equipment is provided and included in the session price — wetsuit, fins, mask, snorkel, weight belt, and weights. If you have your own gear, you're welcome to bring it. Divers who bring all of their own equipment are eligible for a discount — just mention it when you book.
How deep will I dive?
There's no target depth — this session is about working on your goals, not hitting a number. Depending on your experience and what we're working on, dives typically range from 10 to 30+ meters. Your instructor will guide the session based on how you're feeling on the day and what makes the most sense for your development.
If you have a specific depth goal in mind, let us know beforehand and we'll structure the session around it.
How many people will be in the session with me?
Coaching sessions are small by design — usually between 1 and 4 students sharing a buoy with one instructor. We keep it small so that everyone gets real feedback and actual dive time in the water, not just waiting on the surface.
If you'd prefer a completely private one-on-one session, check out our VIP & Private Sessions — it's just you and the instructor for the full session.
What if I struggle to equalize during the session?
Equalization is the most common challenge for freedivers at all levels — you're definitely not alone. Your instructor will work with you on technique in real-time and help you troubleshoot what's going wrong.
The most important thing is to never force it and never push through pain. We will never pressure you to go deeper than you're comfortable with. If equalization is a known issue for you, it helps to practice the Frenzel technique and some dry equalization exercises in the days before your session — we can send you some tips if you reach out beforehand.
What if the conditions are rough on the day?
Jemeluk Bay is well-sheltered and generally calm, but conditions can occasionally be unfavourable due to wind, swell, or strong currents. If conditions make it unsafe or significantly impact the quality of your session, we'll reach out to reschedule at no cost to you. Safety always comes first — we'd rather postpone than put anyone in an uncomfortable situation.
Can I cancel or reschedule my session?
Yes. We understand that travel plans change. If you need to reschedule, please give us as much notice as possible — ideally at least 48 hours before your session. Last-minute cancellations (within 24 hours) may not be eligible for a refund, as we have already allocated an instructor and prepared equipment for you. If you cancel due to a medical reason or emergency, please reach out and we'll do our best to work something out.
What should I ask any operator before booking?
A few things worth checking with any operator before you commit:
- How many clients per instructor?
- What certification does the instructor hold?
- Are clients covered by third-party liability insurance for the duration of the activity?
- Is the operator properly licensed to run commercial diving activities in Indonesia?
We're happy to answer all of these. Just reach out.
