About the Pacha Wreck

This wreck is also called the Marina Wreck and the Ghost Bay wreck. There are several interesting and unproven theories surrounding why this vessel sank including vandalism, poor construction, and karma.

Bathymetry

Starting from shore and swimming outwards there is a gradual slope that descents northeast. The first section that has a noticeable angle of descent starts around 5 meters and descents to around 15 meters.

The second area flattens again around 15 meters and again there is a noticeable slope that descents to around 26 meters. At the bottom of this slope sits the Pacha Wreck.

This seascape surrounding the Pacha Wreck is flat and mainly sandy. There are well known areas on either side of the wreck that are popular amongst scuba divers for much (macro) diving.

Depending on the tide, the top deck (roof) of the wreck sits around 26 meters deep. To reach the very bottom where the lays on the sand is 30 - meters.

The Liberty and Japanese Wrecks are metal and slowly corroding away. But the Pacha Wreck is composed of a composite fiberglass, and has maintained it's structure relatively well. One lesser known fact is that the lightness of the Pacha Wreck has allowed it to move and transition slightly. It was originally shallower and in around 19 meters of water. But a storm during the pandemic pushed down the ridge to a deeper spot.

Freediving the Pacha Wreck

The depth of this wreck makes it a good spot for advanced freedivers capable of doing hangs in the 20 to 30 meter range. It is not recommended that beginners try exploring this wreck.

Freediving through the Pacha Wreck is an advanced endeavor and should be conducted with care and proper line safety.
