Amed beyond the water.

We spend a lot of time in the ocean. But Amed has more than enough to fill the rest of your day. These are the places we actually go, the people we trust, and a few things worth making time for while you are here.

Eat and Drink

All the modern amenities you need for a great vacation are walking distance, or a quick scooter ride from our dive center. Drink a beer at a beachside bar, get a massage, drink a coconut and have an ice bath. It's all here. These are some of our favourites:

The Lift - Air conditioned fitness facilities with a sauna and ice bath. Perfect for recovery days.

Entropy - Sophisticated cuisine and excellent cocktails. Our go-to for a proper dinner.

Blue Earth Village - Yoga, wellness, and the best sourdough pizza in north Bali.

See You Again Cafe - A local-style cafe overlooking the ocean. Great for watching the freedivers in Jemeluk Bay.

Lahangan Sweet - Epic views from a clifftop platform overlooking the volcano. Worth the drive.

La Bottega - Amed's original Italian restaurant. A local institution.

The Shaker Bar - Cold beer, football, and one of the best negronis on the island.

Good Stuff Cafe and Eco Store - An expat favourite, and for good reason.

Where to Stay Near Jemeluk

Almost everything in Amed is close to the water, but Jemeluk Bay specifically has a cluster of good options at every price point. Proximity matters when early morning sessions are on the schedule.

Staying Longer

Some people come for a course and end up staying for months. Amed has a small but reliable long-term rental market. Most properties are found through local contacts rather than booking platforms. These are some options worth knowing about.

Wellness and Recovery

Freediving and spearfishing are physical. Rest days matter. Amed has enough yoga, bodywork, and cold therapy to make recovery feel less like a consolation prize.

Blue Earth Village - Yoga classes and wellness programs in a beautiful garden setting.

The Lift - Sauna and ice bath facilities for serious recovery. Air conditioned and well-equipped.

Day Trips and Land Activities

Northeast Bali is vastly underexplored compared to the south. A scooter and a free afternoon is all you need to reach some of the most dramatic scenery on the island.

Lahangan Sweet - Clifftop viewpoint with a direct sightline to Mount Agung over a valley of jungle. 20 minutes from Amed.

Tirta Gangga Water Palace - A royal bathing complex with ornate fountains and fish ponds, 30 minutes inland.

Sidemen Valley - Terraced rice fields and traditional Balinese village life. Rarely crowded.

Pura Lempuyang - One of Bali's nine directional temples, known for its mountain gate framing Agung. Go early to avoid queues.

USAT Liberty Wreck, Tulamben - One of the world's most famous dive sites. 15 minutes up the coast.

Getting Around

Amed is walkable for most things. For everything else, a scooter is the obvious answer. The roads in northeast Bali are quiet, the scenery is good, and 10 minutes of riding gets you somewhere worth stopping.

__________ - Add your recommended scooter rental here. Daily rates and any notes on road conditions.

__________ - A trusted local driver for airport transfers and day trips. Ask us for the contact directly.

Ngurah Rai Airport to Amed is roughly 2.5 hours by car. Pre-booking a private transfer beats trying to negotiate one at the airport.

Marine Conservation

Jemeluk Bay is a protected marine area. The reef that makes this site special depends on people treating it that way. We support the conservation work happening here and encourage our students and guests to do the same.

__________ - Add a local reef monitoring or restoration organisation here.

__________ - Add a beach or reef cleanup program here. Even a one-time volunteering opportunity is worth listing.

Jemeluk Bay is a no-take zone. No anchoring, no fishing, no coral contact. We brief all our students on these rules before their first session in the water.
