Bathymetry
The bay is wide and the reef runs from 5 metres down to around 20 metres before flattening out into sand. Most of the reef is shallower than 12 meters. Healthy coral heads throughout, with sandy channels running between them.
The most productive depth for marine life sits between 5 and 12 metres. Sea fans on the deeper sections. The layout is straightforward to navigate and the site is compact enough to cover thoroughly on a single dive.
Calm. No significant current on most days. Visibility runs 15 to 25 metres. The site is reliably accessible and presents no meaningful conditions challenge on a typical day.
The Turtles
Green and Hawksbill Turtles graze, rest in the sandy channels between bommies, and surface for air without concern for divers below. Time spent alongside animals that are genuinely undisturbed is a different experience to chasing spooked wildlife across a reef. Juvenile White-tip Reef Sharks rest motionless under table corals in the shallower sections. Lipah functions as a nursery habitat for these sharks, which is part of what gives the site its calm and unhurried character.
Who This Is For
All experience levels. If extended time alongside large marine life without any technical demands is what you are after, Lipah delivers it consistently. Relaxed pace, predictable conditions, animals that stay long enough to actually observe. Not a dramatic site. A quietly excellent one.
