The Layout
Emerald Bay sits inside a natural curve of coastline east of Amed that keeps conditions gentle even when swell builds elsewhere. On the beachline and along the bay is an abandoned resort.
Reef runs from the surface down to around 30 metres with consistent coral coverage across every depth. Most of the interesting structure sits between 10 and 25 metres, where hard coral formations grow dense and reef fish diversity peaks. Sea fans appear on the deeper sections. No single landmark feature, but the coverage and health of the reef across the whole site makes it consistently rewarding at any depth.
Current is mild on most days, with occasional additional flow during strong tidal movement. Visibility runs 15 to 25 metres year-round. The sheltered position keeps the site reliably diveable and accessible.
The Life
Blacktip Reef Sharks patrol the deeper sections with reliable frequency. Not aggressive, but consistent enough that their presence changes the atmosphere of every dive. Reef fish are exceptionally diverse throughout the bay. This is a strong photography site and the combination of clear water, rich coral colour, and shark sightings makes that easy to understand.
Who This Is For
All experience levels. The mild conditions make the site accessible and the marine life rewards patience.
